What is JFB Myofascial Release Approach?

JFB Myofascial Release is a highly effective whole body manual therapy approach, which consists of gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions to relieve pain and restore range of motion. JFB MFR recognizes the multidimensional aspects of the human being. The therapist assesses the body for misalignment, scars, tight, tender, hot and hypo-mobile areas and treats the whole body instead of just addressing symptoms. The latest research has demonstrated that sustained pressure into fascial restrictions for approximately 5 minutes triples the level of interleukin 8 (the body's natural anti-inflammatory). JFB MFR consists of structural work including cranial myofascial system, rebounding and myofascial unwinding. To learn more about this approach please go to John F. Barnes P.T. website.

The Theory of Myofascial Release requires an understanding of the fascial system.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the entire body in a three dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Trauma, surgery, poor posture and inflammatory responses binds down fascia and can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up on any of the standard tests (X-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography etc.). The enormous pressure acts like a “straight jacket” on muscles, nerves, blood vessels and bones producing the symptoms of pain, headaches and restriction of range of motion.

Fascia is the environment of every cell of our body and is in the form of liquid crystalline matrix. The tubules of the matrix have hollow core with fluid in them. The latest research has demonstrated that the fascial system acts like a fiber optic, capable of carrying enormous amounts of information at incomprehensible speeds to over 50 trillion cells of our body. Fascia gives our organs, bones, muscles, etc. shape and if not restricted allows for undisturbed cellular communication, maintaining our health at the optimum level
